BAT management trainee program

I've been asked to take the numerical and verbal tests for the finance program. Does anyone know which type they are?

it is the same test as that of Barclays, Atkins and some others, they are exactly the same.

i take it you guys have already done your phone interviews. i have one coming up tomorrow if some can throw more light on what to expect. i applied for MTP-Finance

i had the telephone interview a couple of weeks ago i applied to the marketing area, so questions will be quite different anyway, you will probably be asked about: -tell me a time when you experienced difficulties in implementing something new into a group -tell me a time when you tried to do something and you didn't succeed...tell me what you did in order to succeed i don't remember the third question She will also ask: -why did you choose bat? -why finance? -tell me your strenghts and your weaknesses -what do you think about working for a tobacco company -are you willing to move to foreign countries? I am italian good luck...i got rejected :D

I applied for the trainee program and I was told to take an abstract reasoning test which I did and in my opinion there was no time. I did like half of it. Does anyone know if they put too much importance on this pre-test before the interview??? Thanks

Hi Nina, I took the tests too and didn't finish the abstract one neither. How did the other one work out for you? I was surprised because it wasn't SHL but Hudson...

The test I was given was some bizarre TalentQ test which was freaking tough! There were only 12 questions with "no time limit." Though you had 90 seconds for each question so go figure...

@knowslian, how many were you able to answer of the talentQ test?

Not sure which you mean, but for the "numerical" one I finished all the questions and swear I only got 10% correct. Though I passed.

The logic one was ridiculous; only answered 20 out of 32 (?) questions.

Haven't heard back off that one yet.

@knowslian, I was referring to the numerical one. Did you have to approximate some of your answers to the closest number? (Thanks for the answer so far, by the way).

Yeah, some needed you to round to the closest value in those drop down boxes. I swear for some of the questions, the answer was unattainable from the given information, for example the bus timetable.

It is neither Kenexa or SHL when I did it.

It was a Hudson TalentQ test I believe. It isn't like the SHL / Kenexa ones; quite unique like reading a report or something and having to make numerical calculations. Answers are multiple choice (out of 20+ for some).

The Logic test isn't too hard; you will be doing "good" to get halfway through before time up.

Hi Knowslian, I just got an email advising me to take the numerical and abstract tests? It says it's SHL, so I'm wondering if yours said SHL as well. (I know you took your test last year). Oh, and by the way, did you make it to the interview stage? If you did can you please give me a clue of the sort of questions you were asked? Thank you!!

Hey shayira, I applied for the MTP too (a couple of weeks ago). I was wondering how long did they take to process your application and invite you for the test? and for which department did you apply for the graduate role?? good luck for the test and thnx a ton in advance!

Hey Shayira, I already had my interview that went pretty well. The lady was very nice and started with the normal questions of why the department I was applying for, why BAT, and then some general questions about tobacco, cigarretes and stuff like that, nothing too technical. I would imagine that the questions vary from department to another. Apart from this she made me a bunch of competency related questions such as the ones written above (teamwork, failure, leadership). She also asked me if I was in other recruitment processes and what were my salary expectations. Relax and try to sound confident! As they say on the email, they are listening to learn about you. It's not a test. Good Luck.

PS- Could anyone please assure the management trainee programme (operations) is based in London? I know graduates will spend a significant part of the time traveling around the countries BAT sources the tobacco from, but the leaf programme has no operations based in aylesbury, right?

Hi tirtha.dutt, I applied about 2 weeks ago. Submitted my application on a Monday, was sent a link for the test on a Wednesday. I still haven't heard from them regarding the outcome of the test which I took last week... I applied for Operations (leaf)

Hey Tirtha, Thank you for the congrats, but I just feel like I did well... Anyway, I submitted my application on the 24th of January, got invited for the first tests on the 2nd of Feb. for the second tests a couple of days later and then got an invitation to schedule my interview on the 13th... I did the interview today and I'll get to know if I pass to the next phase within 2 weeks... Hope this helps, Good Luck!

Hi...my situation is similar to yours Shayira. I applied for the MTP on 14th Feb, heard back immediately on 15th Feb to take the numerical one, took it the same day & heard back on the 16th to take the logical reasoning one. Havent heard from them about the result since then tho...its a bit worrying seeing as other people have been taking interviews...

I've also applied for the Management trainee scheme in BAT for the fiinance department. I have completed both tests two weeks ago and I still dont have a response from them. My status says: " your application is under consideration". Do you know how long does it take to get a response from them? I have also noticed that BAT extended their time for applying to the grad schemes from 11th of March till 25th of March. Does anyone of you who is in the same situation like me, sent them an e-mail to get updates on his/her status?

I have just finished my interview. It was kind of hard... He asked me strickt HR questions, beside checking the motivation and behaviors. i was stressed - prepared but not for everything. I feel tired now :D

He said that they will give further info in two weeks and Assessment is in May in UK.
